The Universidad Central del Caribe, like most of the universities, established a differentiation between resident students and non-resident students for their admission process and study costs. In the School of Medicine, the AMCAS platform is used to determine the type of admission of the student, which has a specific section of “Citizenship and Residency” where the student informs his/her: “Legal Res State” (State of the United States where is defined as your legal residence).

Recommendation:

If you are a student who is a resident of Puerto Rico, but went outside of Puerto Rico just to study, you should not use the temporary address as the legal residence address. If the information is received from AMCAS with the area of ​​legal residence in a state or country outside of Puerto Rico, you will be considered a non-resident student without the possibility of changing your residence status during your stay as a student at the UCC as established by the Board of Trustees.  Using a permanent Puerto Rico postal address on the AMCAS form does not mean that it will be sufficient to consider you in a resident student status. If the area of ​​‘legal residency state’ is outside of Puerto Rico, it will be considered as a Non-Resident student.

La Universidad Central del Caribe, al igual que la mayoría de las universidades, estableció una diferenciación entre los estudiantes residentes y los estudiantes no residentes para su proceso de admisión y costos de estudios. En la Escuela de Medicina se utiliza para determinar el tipo de admisión del estudiante la plataforma de AMCAS, la cual tiene una sección específica de “Citizenship and Residency” donde el estudiante informa su: “Legal Residency State” (Estado de los estados Unidos donde se define como su residencia legal).

Recomendación:

Si es usted un estudiante que es residente de Puerto Rico, pero salió fuera de Puerto Rico solo a estudiar, no debe utilizar la dirección temporera como la dirección de residencia legal. Si se recibe la información de AMCAS con el área de residencia legal en un estado o país fuera de Puerto Rico, usted será considerado un estudiante no-residente sin la posibilidad de cambiar su estatus de residencia durante su estadía como estudiante en la UCC según establecido por la Junta de Síndicos.

El utilizar una dirección postal permanente de Puerto Rico en el formulario de AMCAS no quiere decir que será suficiente para considerarle en un estatus de estudiante residente. Si el área de “Legal Res. State” es fuera de Puerto Rico, será considerado como un estudiante No-Residente.
