Research Area
HIV-1, Immunology, Adaptive immune system, Antiviral effects of natural compounds, Virology, Natural Compounds, Cellular Molecular Biology, cell survival and proliferation. Anti-HIV1 effects of natural compounds on viral entry and replication in the adaptive immune system. Disrupting HIV-1 life cycles.
Current Projects
The anti-HIV effects of Polysaccharide peptide (PSP) in the adaptive immune system.
Dr. Alvarez’s research focuses on understanding the potent antiviral effects of PSP by disrupting HIV-1 entry and replication in the adaptive immune system. PSP has been associated with significant restriction of viral entry in the innate immunity from our previous publication. Based on these findings, this research aims to extended previous studies and uncover the potential of PSP to block HIV-1 infection in the adaptive immunity.
