Current Projects

Evaluation of dried blood spot samples of mothers of boys born with hypospadias in Puerto Rico

My research studies the congenital condition known as hypospadias. Hypospadias is a male urogenital congenital condition characterized by the opening of the external urethral orifice at any point in the ventral side of the penis instead of at the glans penis. My research involves the use of high throughput technology, known as ‘omics, for the identification and quantification of molecules. I have specialized particularly in proteomics and metabolomics. With these technologies, my research looks for biomarkers and plausible deficiencies in metabolite concentrations of mothers of boys born with hypospadias.
