The Department of Internal Medicine provides a wide variety of educational programs and clinical services that encompasses undergraduate and graduate medical education programs as well as management of patients in inpatients and outpatient clinics. The department offers management to hospitalized patients with internal medicine conditions by resident physicians, under the supervision of internists and several subspecialty physicians. The clinics, run by attending and resident physicians, deliver medical services to patients in the specialties of Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology and Pneumology as well as Internal Medicine continuity clinics. The Internal Medicine department holds a Residency Program accredited by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Third year medical students at the UCCSOM, participate in a nine-week clinical clerkship where they prepare for the real world in a clinical setting, doing rotations at the IM ward working hand-on-hand with attendings and resident physicians including the Outpatient Clinics setting.
